The city of Udaipur is located in the Aravalli ranges of the royal state of Rajasthan and is also known as the jewel of Mewar. Also known as the City of Dawn, Udaipur is surrounded by ancient mountains and set on the edge of three lakes. It is a beautiful old city with narrow lanes flanked by bright stalls, gardens, lakes, palaces and temples meandering through it. It is situated at a distance of about 405 km from the state capital Jaipur.

Udaipur was founded in 1559 and named after Maharana Udai Singh. It then replaced Chittor as the capital of the Sisodia dynasty, when according to legend, the Maharana went out hunting one day and met a holy man who blessed him and told him to built a palace at that very spot, as it would be well protected. Today, Udaipur is a one of the better-known tourist destinations of India and an integral part of any itinerary for Rajasthan.

City Palace and Museum -
This is largest palace in Rajasthan; the 16th century city palace of granite is situated on the EST bank of The Pichola Lake. In the past it was the winter resort of maharanas. The inner monuments are – The Shish Mahal,Krishna villa,Bhim villa,Choti chitrashali, Dilkush Mahal, Manak Mahal, Moti Mahal, Bari Mahal, the mosaic peacocks at the more Chowk, the Zenana Mahal, various glass and porcelain statues Of Manak or Rubi Mahal. There is a Government Museum at city palace and a wing of the palace houses the hotel.
The City Palace in Udaipur was built in a flamboyant style and is considered the largest of its type in the state of Rajasthan. It was built atop a hill, in a fusion of the Rajasthani and Mughal architectural styles, providing a panoramic view of the city and its surroundings. Overlooking Lake Pichola, several historic monuments like the Lake Palace, Jag Mandir, Jagdish Temple, Monsoon Palace, and Neemach Mata temple, are all in the vicinity of the palace complex. Nestled within the Aravali mountain range.
Fateh Sagar -
Fatah Sagar Lake, an artificial lake was initially built by Maharana Jai Singh in the north of Lake Pichola and to the north-west of Udaipur in the year 1678 but it was reconstructed by Maharana Fateh Singh in 1888, after being washed away by a flood. Duke of Connaught, the third son of Queen Victoria laid the foundation stone for the new construction and named after the king Maharana Fateh Singh. This is one of the four Lakes of the Udaipur city and is given the nickname of 'Second Kashmir' due to its beautiful blue water and green surrounding.
Boat Ride at Lake Pichola -
Pichola Lake is one of the most beautiful lakes in Rajasthan. Situated in the heart of Udaipur, Pichola is the oldest and one of the largest lakes in all of Udaipur.
Boat rides in the serene waters of Lake Pichola is an wonderful experience. The boats have six to eight seats and are covered with a canopy. Life jackets are compulsory to wear. The boat ride starts at Rameshwar Ghat and it first takes you to the Lake Palace Hotel. Then, it proceeds to the Jagmandir where you can stop for some time and reminisce the beautiful views. The view of the sunset during boat rides is attractive. The yellow glow of the palaces nearby with their reflection in the water seem to hypnotize.
Saheliyon-Ki-Bari -
This splendid garden was laid out by maharanasajjansingh second between 1710-1734 ad for the entertainment of the royal ladies and their maids of honor this the name’ sahelinokibari is the most beautiful gardens in India and gives a glimpse of a bygone life-style there were many gardens immediately below the fath sager lake and these were subsequently merged into "sahelion-ki –bari" maharana fat he Singh the lush green lawns and flower beds the lotus pool and the fountains catch the eye immediately.
Jagdish Temple -
The Jagdish temple was built in 1651 by Maharana Jagat Singh. Built in Indo-Aryan style , the temple is the largest temple of Udaipur. A black stone image of Lord Vishnu and a brass image of Garuda can be seen here.
Bhartiya Lok Kala Mandir
Bharatiya Lok Kala Mandir, the Indian folk arts museum, has interesting exhibits that include folk dresses, ornaments, puppets, masks, dolls, folk musical instruments, folk deities and paintings. Puppet shows are held here daily.
Ropeway
Ropeway is recently introduced and is most important tourist attraction at City Udaipur is a Ropeway which connects Dudh Talai Garden to Karni Mata temple.The temple, located on a hill presents a breath taking bird’s eye view of City Udaipur.It is installed between two mountains right on the bank of Lake Pichola.It is from here that you can click best view of City Udaipur including Lake Pichola, outstanding City Palace complex, Sajjangarh Fort and above all artistic landscaped Aravali mountains on the other side of the lake.
Ahar -
Ahar is the ancient capital of the Sisodias that lies about three kilometers from the town of Udaipur. It boasts of numerous chhatris or cenotaphs that commemorate Mewar's royalty.
Biological park -
The Location where this Biological park is situated is foothills of Basandhara hills in west of Udaipur. These hills lost their greenery owing to irresponsible harnessing of biological and non-biological resources much beyond the sustainable limits. The zoo has different ranges of animals and birds which have been brought from different parts of World. At present, including tigers, panthers, lions, ostriches, alligators, rhesus monkeys etc.
Sajjangarh -
Sajjangarh is a dramatic 18th century palace that gives a breathtaking view of the Mewar countryside, and lies on a hilltop just outside Udaipur. It was initially intended to be a five-story astronomical center, but was later abandoned and used as a monsoon palace and hunting lodge.
This now derelict palace dominates the skyline from its position 2467 feet high on top of Bansdara Mountain and is clearly visible from most parts of Udaipur. It affords splendid views of the City and the surrounding countryside.

Ranakpur & Kumbhalgarh -
The beautifully sculptured Jain temples lie in a tranquil valley of the Aravallis. The main 'Chaumukha Temple' is dedicated to the tirthankara Adinath and has 29 halls supported by 1444 pillars, all distinctly carved. Two jain temples dedicated to Neminath and Parsvanath and a Sun Temple a little distance away,are also noteworthy.
Kumbhalgarh is world famous for the Grand exotic Kumbhalgarh Fort. The fort has a rock solid architecture and that is why it is the only unbeaten fort in Rajasthan. Kumbhalgarh (also called Kumbhalmer or Kumbalgarh) is a Mewar fortress in the Rajsamand District of Rajasthan state in western India. It is the most important fort in Mewar after Chittorgarh.
Eklingji & Nathdwara -
Eklingi is set in a deep ravine containing the Eklingji Lake about 22 km from Udaipur. The Ekalinga temple here is made of white marble with a two-storey mandapa to Shiva.
Nathdwara -
Nathdwara is an important Hindu pilgrimage center that lies 48 kilometers from Udaipur. It is also famous for nurturing the glorious tradition of Pichwal paintings.
Nagda -
Nagda has three temples dating back to the 11th century-Adbhutji Temple and the Vaishnavite Sas-Bahu Temples-all dating back to the 11th century.
Chittorgarh -
Chittorgarh is one of the oldest cities in Rajasthan. It was capital of the legendary Sisodia Dynasty of which Rana Pratap and Rana Kumbha were the kings.
Its majestic fort dominates the city. Most of the attractions are located inside the walls of the fort. Kumbhalgarh, Ghanerao, Rajsamand Lake, Jaisamand Lake, Sardarsamand, Haldighati, Dungarpur, Narlai, etc are the other historical places worth visiting near Udaipur.
